I grew up in California and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design from California State University Northridge and a Master of Fine Arts in Painting/Drawing, from the University of North Texas, Denton.
I have just finished my Ph.D. in Design Studies at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. My research topic, The Foundations of Design: Towards a Model of Style Grammar in Drawings, examines the relationship between the visual features of drawings and an artist's style with the intent of developing ways to use the ranking of visual features as a teaching tool for drawing and design.
My research connects human perception, machine vision, image processing, image statistics and art historical drawings, demonstrating my own interest in an interdicispinlary design education.
I have lived and worked in many cities in the United States, Czech Republic, Russia, Japan and New Zealand.
